Centro Volta's Activities

Centro Volta conducts a wide range of study, analysis, research and application initiatives, in a diverse set of fields and disciplines, in partership with universities, research centers, national and international agencies.

Some examples:

  • Organization of scientific conferences, in cooperation or on behalf of universities and research centers. If you want to learn more, please visit our dedicated Conference Management Web Site
  • Operation of a global network of international experts involved in the analysis and investigation of global development as well as international scientific cooperation issues. Scientific Programs cover international security and policy aspects, worldwide disarmament of weapons of mass destruction and arms control, scientific and technology cooperation for global peace support, water and energy security, etc. Initiatives in this area are designed and managed by our specific office "Landau Network Centro Volta".   • Studies and projects concerning environment protection, preservation and restoration, with particular emphasis on water resources and on Lake Como's limnology (see for example current Lake Como West Arm Restoration Project, coordinated by Centro Volta and conducted in coperation with the Center for Water Research of the University of Western Australia, Politecnico di Milano, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche/Istituto di Ricerca sulle Acque and Università dell'Insubria).
  • Since May 2008, participation in Project VAALID, aimed at creating new tools and methods that facilitate and streamline the process of creation, design, construction and deployment of technological solutions in the context of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) assuring that they are accessible and usable for senior citizens (see Project VAALID Web Site).
  • From January 2006 to June 2008, participation in (and coordination of) Project MULTI-KNOWLEDGE, aimed to integrate different biomedical information from heterogeneous sources (clinical, laboratory and metabolic) with data on gene and protein expression provided by new high throughput technologies in a system committed to cardiovascular risk profiling (see Project MULTI-KNOWLEDGE Fact Sheet).
  • From January 2005 to April 2007, participation in the Coordination Activity CABRI-VOLGA, aimed at facilitating cooperation and coordinating research in environmental risk management in large river basins in the EU, Russia and the New Independent States (NIS) (for more information please visit the CABRI-VOLGA Web Site).

IFAC 18th World Congress

IFAC 2011 Logo

The International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) — that cooperated several times in the past with Centro Volta — is organizing its 18th World Congress in Milan, from Agust 28th to September 2nd, 2011. More information is available on the Conference Web Site.

Position opening

Prof. Iachello Awarded the 21st Somaini Prize

Prof. Francesco Iachello, of Yale University, has been awarded the 21st Somaini Prize in Physics for his discoveries on advanced algebraic methods as a means of attacking problems relating to atomical and molecular structures.

The award ceremony was held in Como, on January 25th, 2010.

The Somaini Prize is awarded every three years by the City of Como to prominent Italian physicists. Since 2003 the Prize is administered by Centro Volta.
